Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba was back to his best in the colours of world champions France in their friendly win over Bulgaria on Tuesday night. In their final warm-up match before their Euro 2020 campaign begin, France thrashed Bulgaria 3-0 and Paul Pogba was one of their best players.
Paul Pogba has always performed better in a France shirt than in a Manchester United shirt since his then world-record transfer to the Theatre of Dreams from Italian Serie A giants Juventus in the summer of 2016 and the Bulgaria game was not an exception.
A lot of the Manchester United fans have always called for Pogba to be given more freedom at club level and he showed what he can do with better creative freedom against Bulgaria as he sprayed passes to the front three of KylianMbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Karim Benzema.
Pogba played the majority of the recent season on the left side of the attack with United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opting for the midfield trio of Fred, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes. He showed against the Bulgarians that his best role is the pocket behind the striker but that position is occupied by Portuguese international Fernandes at club level. Fernandes has been the Player of the Year at Manchester United for the last two seasons and he has only spent 18 months.
France didn’t seal the 3-0 result against the Bulgarians until the late brace scored by substitute Olivier Giroud. Barcelona attacker Griezmann had earlier given Les Blues the lead with a spectacular overhead kick in the first half.
