Tahith Chong reluctant to speak on contract situation at Manchester United

Dutch youngster Tahith Chong has suggested that he has yet to decide whether to sign a new contract at Manchester United. The 19-year-old has less than eight months remaining on his existing deal with the Red Devils and there have been reports suggesting that he could sign a pre-contract with Juventus at the turn of the year.

Speaking on FOX Sports, Chong remained calm when asked about the contract situation and stated that a decision will be made during the second half of the campaign, he told: “It’s early right now. I’m still a player of Manchester United and the season is in full swing. My focus is on that. ‘The contract will come naturally. I am now focusing on this season.”

Chong has been highly regarded by the backroom staff at the academy level at United but he has yet to establish himself with the senior outfit. The Dutchman has managed just eight appearances over the past 18 months and during this period, the likes of Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams have gone on to become first-team regulars ahead of him.

As a result, the attacker would undoubtedly be frustrated with the present situation and his agent has previously hinted that a free transfer could be on the cards when the season concludes. The Bianconeri are presently deemed favourites to sign the promising Dutch youngster and reports indicate that they may propose a pre-contract at the beginning of the year.

The Bianconeri have recently gone through a trend of pursuing high-profile players on Bosman deals. Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot were pursued during the summer through the free transfer route and it appears that there are now after Chong, who has the potential to transform into a top-class player. Juventus are currently at the top of the league standings after 12 gameweeks.
