Approximately 30 of Gladiator’s
130 Select teams play in either the Premier or Division
1 level of the Nebraska Soccer League (NSL) starting
at the U11 age group. Also known as "Premier",
the teams are typically selected during an annual
tryout process. They are trained 2-3 times weekly
by a paid coach. In addition to league play, these
teams also travel to out-of-state tournaments. They
also represent the club at the annual State Cup
Championships to determine the best team in Nebraska
at each age group.

The Accelerated Program bridges the
gap between the Recreational Program that seeks
to provide a solid soccer skill foundation for our
younger players, and the Select Program which selects
the strongest, most committed of the players to
its teams. Player identification for the Accelerated
Program begins at the U8 level. At the end of that
year, some athletes are invited to receive additional
training as part of the Accelerated Program
for their U9 and U10 year. Players in the Accelerated
Program pay a supplemental fee for additional year-
round training from the Directors of Development
and the “Matrix” staff with a view to
“accelerating” their potential through
a commitment to higher levels of training. Festivals
and the like are open to Gladiator players only.

The Recreational Program recognizes,
in title and curriculum, that players of these ages
are participating in club soccer primarily to satisfy
a recreational need to exercise, have fun and form
social bonds through the game they love. This is
accomplished without the time consuming demands,
expense and travel requirements of select soccer.
The focus starts with “ball familiarity”
at the earlier ages, progressing to development
of essential 1 v 1 skills including dribbling at
high speed, controlling the ball, tackling, cutting
and turning (mobility), and passing and receiving.
Tactical aspects of the game are introduced at the
U12 level.
K-Ball: a subset
of the Recreational Program, K-Ball targets players
age 4 and 5. This program gathers athletes over
the course of six Monday nights each spring and
fall, for an hour of soccer activities appropriately
structured for the age group. Current college players
from Creighton, UNO and Bellevue – we call
them “facilitators of fun” – conduct
the sessions.

The Omaha Soccer Academy was founded
in 2004 to address the needs of those players who
wanted supplemental training so as to accelerate
their soccer development. The academy chose as its
focus, the fastfootwork program conceived and developed
by Director of Coaching, John Keating. As such it
is a dedicated footwork program wherein the athletes
spend 10 Sunday afternoons each fall and spring
season working on footwork and dribbling exercises
for 75 minutes with a certified staff. Where seriously
applied, athletes will exhibit a marked improvement
and confidence in their ability to possess, dribble,
control and turn with the ball during games. The
academy accommodates all skill levels, and groups
athletes accordingly. Registration is, however,
limited to approximately 230 athletes each session.
The academy also operates through the winter.
Frequently Asked Questions:
The club offers three summer camps
and one winter camp. The Gladiator summer camps,
operating under the name “Game-Winner Striker’s
Camps” are focused on shooting and a general
ability to strike a ball. The camp uses a series
of exercises in front of goal, to work on athletes’
ability to hit a ball with power and accuracy regardless
of leg strength. The camps offer a u11 and up "select"
level and a u6-u14 "recreational" level.
The latter caters more toward the players in our
accelerated and recreational programs whilst the
former caters to premier (select) players. The club
also offers a goalkeeper camp each summer and winter
through our Directors of Goalkeeping. Click

Recognizing the need to provide winter
playing opportunities for our athletes, the club
initiated an indoor 5 v 5 league operating under
the label Omaha
Futsal League. Run over Friday nights and Saturday
mornings, the winter is divided into two sessions
(October- December and January – March) and
the league is open to the soccer community with
registration priority given to Gladiator teams.
The Futsal format is dynamic- four outfielders and
a keeper on a surface the size of a basketball court
using a small weighted ball- and is therefore a
wonderful tool for improving ball handling, speed
of play, quick passing and dribbling, and finishing.
The league website is extremely user friendly, providing
stats, tables and schedules, as well as weekly game
reviews.
