Providing coaching education is one of the primary job responsibilities of the club Director of Coaching. We take this function very seriously, realizing that our club is only as strong as its coaching corp.
If players find themselves on teams that have knowledgeable, progressive, athlete-friendly coaches, they will stay and develop under our banner for years to come. The opposite is true too.

Weekly sessions: On a weekly basis, the Director of Coaching does one or more practice sessions with a Gladiator team. Coaches are given advance notice of the venue, time, and practice topic. Coaches observe the session, take notes and ask questions afterward. They then import this knowledge into sessions with their own teams.
Orientation Sessions: the club respects the work of its volunteer coaches. We don’t like to assign a parent-coach volunteer to a team and then desert him or her, leaving them to fight their way through coaching books for assistance in planning a session. At the beginning of each season, the Director of Coaching meets with the new volunteers and does an orientation session that covers game coaching style, practice methods and sample sessions, coaching pitfalls, age group psychology, and current club philosophy. The sessions typically last 90 minutes.
Evaluations: on the nights when the Director of Coaching isn’t doing sessions himself, he makes his way around the various teams in the club and completes evaluations for those coaches that ask for one. Using the same grading sheet that one would see at a state licensing course, the Director of Coaching offers advice on structuring a session, making it efficient, and getting the most out of it.
The Matrix: founded in response to the need for higher level coaches to supplement our volunteer coaching corp., the Matrix includes coaches that intend to (or already are) making a living from the profession. Or at a minimum, former high school and college players that treat coaching as a passion and are prepared to dedicated time, energy and finances toward becoming more accomplished.
As a member organization of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA), the Nebraska Soccer Association offers a licensing program for coaches at all levels in the state. Starting with 3-hour Youth Modules, the State offers thereafter the 18-hour E License and the 36-hour D License as well as goalkeeping diplomas. Coaches register for these courses online at nebraskasoccer.org. Gladiator Soccer Club fully reimburses the cost of such licensing.
Following on from the state licensing program, the USSF and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) offer more advanced national level courses. National courses typically last a week, and the average registration fee is approximately $900. Gladiator coaches should possess an E or D license to qualify for a club reimbursement of the cost of attending a national course.
